About Us
Ken Twergo founded his low vision business when his wife, Patty White, was first diagnosed with an inflammatory, retinal and macular disorder which quickly made it impossible for her to read or see people or drive a car. Until Ken found low vision technology by attending the CSUN national disabilities trade show and conference in Los Angeles, Patty's condition threatened her employment. Ken's first business was located in Boise, Idaho. Ken named the business Intermountain West Low Vision Products. Within a few years, Ken moved the headquarters for the business to the Portland metro area and took the name Vision Matters, expanding with a team of representatives to work in a five-state region. The Low Vision Store is a reflection of the importance the retail outlet and internet has had on the business. Patty finally left her beloved position with the Idaho Humanities Council and joined him in the business in 2001. The business established offices, a warehouse, and a showroom in Vancouver, Washington in 2003.
Ken and Patty remember a decade of customers up the back roads of the northwest and intermountain region. They've been on century farms and highrises the middle of cities. They remain in close touch with many of their customers as customer's needs change over time and as technology opens new horizons for people of all ages with low vision. The couple treasures their contacts with the families that they have met. They know they have earned the trust of thousands of people. Over and again they are told by people and the doctors that refer them that their service, range of choices, and first hand knowledge set them apart.
Patty, a writer, artist, former college teacher and non-profit administrator, frequently speaks to support groups, Lions Clubs, and service organizations. One of the most experienced people in the country working with the needs of retirement communites in designing low vision solutions for group settings, Patty is a frequent consultant to communal living organizations.
